Still Great
I'm listening to "Stop This Train" by John Mayer right now, for the first time in a while. Shortly after Continuum came out, my friend Mike said, referring to this song, that he literally couldn't believe John (I can call him John) wrote this song. Like, it's literally unbelievable. This song is by far the best song he's ever written, and probably in my top 10 of all time. It is the ultimate example of what John Mayer does best: he deals with his own mortality. He feels his need for salvation, but I don't think he would ever word it like that. But the amazing thing about John is that he doesn't have an answer. He doesn't just throw his hope in the lowest hanging fruit. He keeps it real, all the way. Stop This Train resonates with me on a level that very very few songs do. I especially admire this song because it was written by a guy who has made it, and made it, and made it some more. He has all the money, success and fame one could dream of, and he's still keeping it real, at least in this song. There's just something cathartic about hearing someone say the things you've been feeling for so long.

The List
My friends and I have a list of words that men can't say. I'm not going to post the entire list here, but I'll update you from time to time whenever the list grows. Last night, we found another one:
Smooch. Or any form of it. Smooching, smooched, smooches.

Wow
Gavin DeGraw SERIOUSLY brought it on his second record. I downloaded it and expected to be completely underwhelemed, especially because the last time Kristi and I saw him live he looked like he'd been snorting about a pound of cocaine a day. But man oh man was I wrong. Soon I found myself dancing like a maniac in my car, singing along at the top of my lungs. SO good. Gavin wasn't created by some producer. He's like 32. So this record sounds a lot like his first one, because that's what's inside him. I think that aspect of his music is what I like best about him. I believe every word he says.

C.S. Lewis
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." – C. S. Lewis

Limbo
This is a strange part of life. Still newlyweds? Are we? I don't know when that title expires. Is this a career, this thing I'm doing? Do I even need to think like that?

Preach!
So, many of you know that I am a HUGE Dave Ramsey fan. This clip from his radio show sums up how I feel about what has happened in this country. Dave has this ability to state things very simply, which is part of why I love him (and part of why some people hate him). This is a great clip, especially the last two minutes or so. If you've got some time, give it a listen.
