The Problem With Big Government
The problem with big government is that it concentrates most of the power into a few humans. The reason this is a problem is because humans are flawed. But the liberal mind, at it's core, denies this. The liberal mind believes that utopia is possible here on earth. The reason small government creates greatness is because it distributes power amongst it's citizens. When each person has a bit of the power, there's only so much damage they can do.
Barack Obama doesn't get it. We see through him. He's all talk, and everyone is beginning to realize it. The real Barack landed in Denver tonight. I say this because tonight he had to engage in the "old style" of politics that he was supposedly above. The real Barack is as dirty as they come. The real Barack arrived on that ridiculous stage tonight by being as greasy as any politician in the history of this country. He had to engage in this old style of politics tonight because the charm has worn off. You can only rely on charisma and transcendent rhetoric for so long. Sooner or later, you gotta bring the goods.
And so tonight was the beginning of a long slow descent for Barack. Because he now has to show up with ideas

Sometimes
Sometime there's only one thing that will do the trick: loud music.
I'm talking Continuum
I'm talking Paramore's "Riot"
Ohhh, oh yes, i'm talking FuterSexLoveSounds. Oh good lord yes.
Let's make that happen.

Saddleback
Just one quick observation for those of you who watched it:
At the beginning of the Obama segment, Rick Warren asked Obama what America's biggest moral failure has been. Obama's answer included a quote from the book of Matthew, where Jesus says "Whatever you do to the least of these you do to me". Apparently Barack doesn't think we do a good enough job of taking care of those among us who are less fortunate. This is a ridiculous notion, but that's a whole 'nother blog.
But note that he later, when asked about abortion, stated his pro-choice stance. How much more "least of these" can you get than an unborn baby?
I am not the one who realized this. Some guy at the LA times did, but it's a great point.

Parody
Guys, I think i've stumbled upon a gold-mine. I'm going to start a web-based political comedy show. Why is this idea a gold-mine, you ask? Because moveon.org has already done all the work for me! They have a cornucopia of videos on youtube that are just hilarious! Take this one for example. This is supposed to be comedy, right? No one could really have this viewpoint or be this misinformed, right?
Ok, that one was pretty good, but this one, THIS one really gets me. This is brilliant writing. I loled for a good 30 seconds.
Ok, on a serious note, that second video literally makes me sick. When I hear nonsensical dribble like this, I feel overwhelmed. Panicked even. This stuff is so heinous and so calculated, and when I see it in plain view like this, I realize how wide the divide truly is. I realize how fiercely I must fight and how thoughtful we must be when Kristi and I raise our kids.
The older I get the more deeply in love I fall with Judeo-Christian values. I think it comes down to this: the liberal mind believes that man is owed at birth. That we enter this world entitled to all sorts of things. The Judeo-Christian mind does not.

Hope
Having done basically two things in my life so far, I've come to realize one important fact: the reason music continues to be written is the same reason capitalism is the best economic system.
I pursued the singer songwriter dream for what seemed like a really long time. I feel like I know the game. I feel like I understand why people go down that road and pursue that dream. As a songwriter, the most beautiful thing about sitting down to write a song is that there is no limit to how wonderful the song can be. There is no limit to how creative you can be. There is no limit to how many songs you can write. There is only the dream of creating something great. Like Stevie Wonder did. Like Billy Joel did. Like John Mayer is doing.
Now, I'm a small business owner. One of the reasons I love doing business is because there is no limit to how great my business can become. (I know, this isn't really true in America today, but globally speaking we're pretty darn free here). This idea of limitless greatness is what this country was founded on. It's the reason this country became great. As I look back at the colonial period, the industrial revolution, the guilded age and the .com boom, I see that the engine that drove all of these eras was the possibility for man to create something great. When I hear liberal politicians speak, I feel my hope being drained. When I read about Barack Obama wanting to tax people making $250,000 per year almost 60%, I feel my hope being drained. When I hear him talk about raising the capital gains tax to 30%, I feel my hope being drained. Not because i'm greedy, but because I know that type of paradigm always leads to collapse. When I hear about bail-out after bail-out that the treasury and federal reserve are implementing, my heart just breaks. Because it's just one more step towards a complete nanny-state. It's just one more brick in the wall of the government saying to the average american "It's ok, you don't need to take responsibility for your foolish actions! Here's some money!". Now, please do not misunderstand me here. I am not a victim. Please do not hear me whining. Rest assured, I'm going to fight for liberty all my life. I just feel overwhelmed when I realize how far we've come from where we started as a country.
The point is this: the model exemplified in music will always be the best argument for capitalism. The reason people continue to write songs is because there is no limit to how great their songs can become. And the hope of greatness is the most powerful engine.
